Career

After graduating from Cal Poly in 1996, Nunes began his career by serving on the board of the College of the Sequoias, his other alma mater.

He stayed on the board for many years.

In 2001, he was chosen by George W. Bush to be the California State Director for the US Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development division.

Nunes entered politics by running for the US Congress in 1998, where he placed third in California’s 20th congressional district.

He tried again in 2002 for the newly created 21st congressional district and won by a narrow margin over his opponent, former Fresno mayor Jim Patterson.

Nunes continued to win reelections in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

After the 2010 census, his district was renamed as the 22nd, and he kept winning reelections until 2020.

In addition to his congressional duties, Nunes became the chair of the House Intelligence Committee in 2015.

However, at the end of 2021, he decided to leave Congress to become the CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group.
